We provide an intensive three-day training course on the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard. Training topics include data collection, calculation, data management system, reporting, and ways to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This includes a customized Excel-based GHG inventory and calculation system, as well as hand-holding and guidance through follow-up consultations with data handlers and reporters.
We provide assistance to companies in monitoring and managing their GHG emissions by:
Accurately tracking emission sources that are directly and indirectly related to company and subsidiary operations with the aid of the widely-used corporate accounting standards by the GHG Protocol; and
Crafting strategies and methodologies to reduce GHG emissions that directly or indirectly result from company and subsidiary operations.
Given the breadth of carbon emission-related impacts each industry has, we offer our expertise in baselining data, assessing natural sequestration, and exploring solutions in reducing GHG emissions. We work with clients to determine their offset amount and offer sustainability strategies and solutions acceptable to regulatory bodies.
Climate action is an urgent global agenda requiring participation from all stakeholders. Businesses plays a pivotal role to shift our trajectory towards low-carbon economy. The private sector has the potential to curb emissions given their financial and technological capacity. We assist companies in finding the business case for building a robust and ambitious Climate Action Plan and provide consutling services to develop a low-carbon transition roadmap to companies who are committed to reduce their GHG emissions. Globally, a few companies have publicly aired their commitments to reduce GHG emissions and promote sustainability in business.
The signing of the Manila Declaration on Private Sector support to the Philippine Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) is part of a series of activities requested by the Climate Change Commission (CCC) to support the country’s INDC development and ownership process. This was held on October 23, 2015, at Hotel Intercontinental, Makati City. The Manila Declaration was signed by more than 50 companies and private institutions as the response of the Philippine private sector to climate change and its commitment to the reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG), ultimately contributing to sustainability in the Philippines.
On December 1, 2015, it was turned over to World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Chairman Paul Polman and has since resulted in various technical working group meetings among its signatories to tackle issues such as cement sustainability and energy efficiency. Based on their formal commitments to the declaration, we and our partners are now encouraging all signatory companies to align their businesses with the government’s efforts as they will be stipulated in the INDC. In coordination with the Climate Change Commission, we are planning a briefing summit to inform signatory companies on the developments of the Paris Agreement. We will also encourage more companies to be part of the Manila Declaration, so long as they agree and practice its provisions.
In partnership with the Earth Security Group, this two-year Ecosystem-based Adaptation project aimed to mobilize business opportunities to deploy commercial capital for environmental sustainability and climate change efforts. The key areas identified and discussed during the private sector workshop are: Natural Infrastructure Finance, Insurance Products, Land Conservation Funds, and Business Innovation Incubator. On its second year, policies were created with the engagement of government officials towards these focus areas, with the goal of contributing to overall sustainability in the Philippines
Given our broader mandate on sustainable development, our member companies are expected to be more proactive in working with the government, particularly in crafting policies relevant to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our development challenges are enormous and cannot be achieved if the private sector and the government do not work together towards sustainability in the Philippines. To address this, we created a Policy Advocacy Council (PAC) on Sustainable Energy. PAC is envisioned (1) to pursue a systematic policy review to amend outdated policies that have become barriers for businesses to contribute to sustainable development and (2) to advocate for better enabling policies that will facilitate the transformation of our economy to a low-carbon, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable one.
